Purpose of Groups

The internal groups, panels, and committees within the Roads and Transport Directorate play a vital role in driving its mission. These expert-led teams provide critical insights, guide research priorities, and shape policy recommendations. By fostering collaboration and leveraging diverse expertise, they ensure the Directorate delivers informed, practical solutions that address the evolving needs of the roads and transport sector.

Management Committee

The Management Committee is responsible for managing the affairs of the Directorate and providing advice in terms its general direction. It ensures that the Directorate is well run and is able to deliver the outcomes for which it has been set up.

The Management Committee meets on a quarterly basis to discuss the activities and direction of the Directorate. The Chairperson of the Management Committee is Gary Woodman – General Manager, Warren Shire Council

Bridge Panel

Bridges often represent a critical vulnerability in sustainable local road networks. The Bridge Working Party was established to foster collaboration between Councils, Transport for NSW (TfNSW), and industry experts, delivering long-term benefits to communities. Chaired by David Andrews from TfNSW, the group focuses on improving the management and upgrading of bridge assets across NSW.

Key objectives include developing strategic planning frameworks, advancing asset management practices, and creating technical resources to support bridge practitioners. The group also advocates for increased funding, shares lessons learned in bridge design and construction, and works to enhance the skills of the local government workforce in bridge maintenance and building.

Road Safety Panel

The Road Safety Panel plays a crucial role in enhancing safety on local roads across NSW. This panel brings together councils, Transport for NSW (TfNSW), and safety experts to develop strategies that reduce road-related risks and protect communities. Through collaboration, the panel aims to create safer road environments for all users.

Key objectives include providing expert advice on road safety issues, developing evidence-based strategies, and sharing best practices. The panel also supports advocacy efforts for increased funding and resources to implement effective safety initiatives, while fostering innovation and continuous improvement in road safety management.

Transport Panel

The Transport Panel is dedicated to improving transport infrastructure and services across NSW, focusing on delivering efficient and sustainable solutions. The group facilitates collaboration between councils, Transport for NSW (TfNSW), and industry professionals to address current and future transport challenges.

Key objectives include developing strategies to optimise transport networks, improving connectivity, and ensuring sustainability in transport planning. The group also works to identify innovative solutions, provide technical guidance, and support advocacy for enhanced funding and resources to improve transport systems across the state.
